3 soon-to-be free agents that Portsmouth should consider this summer

In their first full year under Danny Cowley, Portsmouth have done well and currently sit tenth in the league.

However, sitting 12 points from the play-offs makes it look very unlikely they’ll do anything more than just finish at the top end of the table this year.

With only ten senior players contracted for next season as it stands, Cowley has got a big summer on his hands as he identifies the players that he believes will help his side achieve the next step up which is the play-offs next year.

Here, we take a look at three players who are soon-to-be free agents that Portsmouth may want to consider signing themselves.

Lynden Gooch

Despite having been with Sunderland since he was a teenager, Gooch looks set to be leaving the club this summer.

The winger is able to play on both sides of the pitch and also does a good job at getting back which would suit Cowley’s preferred three at the back and four in midfield formation.

This season he has made 32 league appearances and contributed five assists showing his ability to assist his side in an attacking sense.

Considering Portsmouth have only scored one goal in their four previous games, this looks to be an area they need to improve in meaning the 26-year-old could definitely have a part to play in Cowley’s side.

Malcom Ebiowei

Speaking of contribution to goals, 18-year-old Malcom Ebiowei may be a risk worth taking for Danny Cowley.

We know that Cowley will be favouring the younger players where possible meaning the winger definitely fits the bill.

Despite having made only ten appearances for Derby County this season, the youngster has definitely impressed fans with his natural talent.

Naturally he still has a way to go and will need to be looking at adding goals to his game
