"3 or 4 players went to Bielsa..." - Journalist reveals behind-scenes Leeds claim before sacking

Some Leeds players wanted Marcelo Bielsa to change his tactics prior to their match against Tottenham on Saturday, according to journalist Dean Jones.

Leeds went on to lose the game convincingly, and the result ultimately cost Bielsa his job as he left the club on Sunday.

Not for the first time this season, Leeds were opened up at will by Antonio Conte’s side.

Tottenham arrived at Elland Road off the back of a bitterly disappointing defeat against Burnley, but they raced into a two-goal lead thanks to strikes from Matt Doherty and Dejan Kulusevski.

The visitors added a third before the half hour mark through Harry Kane, and the England striker then turned provider in the second half when he clipped a delightful ball over the top for Heung-min Son, who finished with minimal fuss to wrap up a 4-0 win.

Going into the Tottenham game, Leeds had lost their previous three matches, and had shipped 13 goals during this period.

Jones has claimed that these results led to some of the Leeds first-team asking Bielsa to alter the way the team was set up, but their suggestions fell on deaf ears.

“From what I was told, 3 or 4 players went to Bielsa in the build-up to that final game he had and asked him to consider changing the tactics slightly, just to adapt things. And he wouldn’t do it,” Jones told GIVEMESPORT.

There is certainly an argument that he should have.

Tottenham found it far too easy at times to get past Leeds’ press, with Kane and Son, in particular, causing problems throughout the match.
