24-year old departs Coventry City

The winger spent six seasons with the Sky Blues but will not be offered a new contract to keep him in Coventry beyond the summer.

A statement on the club’s official website confirmed that Jones is one of a number of players set to depart at the end of the campaign.

The 24-year old had become a fan favourite during his time under Mark Robins, playing a key role in the 2017 Checkatrade Trophy victory and lighting up the CBS Arena with his performances over the years.

But three successive cruciate ligament injuries in his knees cost him a lot of playing time over the last few seasons.

That has seen him receive plenty of sympathy as his career has suffered major setbacks.

However, the club have decided to part ways with the Englishman.

Also leaving the club are Josh Pask, Jonny Ngandu and Aaron Evans-Harriott.

Jordan Shipley had a clause in his contract triggered to extend his contract with Coventry for another 12 months, but a transfer offer has been accepted that will see him also depart the Sky Blues this summer.

Robins’ side finished 12th in the Championship this season, finishing 11 points adrift of the play-off places.

However, this was a marked improvement on last year, as the team earned an additional nine points and four places on 2020-21.

This is very much a ruling of head over heart as far as Coventry are concerned.

Jones has been a firm fan favourite over the years, having emerged as an exciting young prospect as a teenager.

His performances during his early years at the club also delighted fans as they climbed back into the second division.

However, with his recent injury record it is hard to justify keeping him at the club.
