Hands up who has memories of pink custard, meat with fatty tubes in and tasteless round scoops of mash?

Few things from our younger days spark memories as much as school dinners - for better or worse. While some can fondly reminisce about their favourite school dinners and puddings, others balk at remembering the insipid slop ladled onto their dinner plates by a dinner lady.

The latter could only look on in envy at the kids that had come equipped with their own packed lunches. However, if you were a fan of crinkle-cut chips, tapioca or pink custard, you wouldn't think twice about going back for seconds.

For many of us the dishes we either loved or loathed all through primary and secondary school will have been forgotten the moment walked out of the school gates for the final time. Others of course will have remained favourites well into our adult years, provided you can still find them in the shops.

Recently, the Liverpool Echo took a look back at the foods with used to love, or hate. We've taken the ones that were staples of school dinner menus for many years and also added a few of our own.
