$20m boost and De Bruyne mania - what we learned from Man City's record-breaking summer tour

Not even the extreme weather conditions could dampen the finale of Man City's summer schedule.

Pep Guardiola's side ended their pre-season tour with a defeat against Atletico Madrid in Seoul on Sunday, in a match that was delayed by 40 minutes after torrential rain in the South Korean capital.

It didn't stop another sellout crowd from making themselves heard, though, with City selling out every ticket that was available for all three matches of their Asian adventure. Early estimates suggest the club generated somewhere in the region of $20million from the success of the tour, which saw unprecedented demand across both Japan and South Korea.

The Blues expected increased demand from their previous trip to the region four years ago, but nobody was quite prepared for just how much Man City mania has swept across the region. It is even more remarkable given they don't currently have any Japanese or South Korean players in the senior men's side, something that often hugely boosts popularity in these parts.

It wasn't only apparent in the stadiums, which were all effectively home matches given how many sky blue shirts were on display, but in the fan parks and community events held throughout the fortnight. City's three matches were played in front of a collective crowd of almost 200,000 people, and another 30,000 fans flocked to watch them in open training as well.

City's win over Yokohama set a record attendance for a J.League match, and they broke another record days later with the largest-ever football attendance at the Japan National Stadium for their win against Bayern.
