2025 NBA Preseason Buzz: Kevin Durant, Rockets Agree to Extension

The NBA offseason still has a handful of unresolved situations that have carried into the preseason, and with that comes drama and buzz about the futures of the best free agents and potential trade targets.

Durant has yet to play a game with the Houston Rockets, but he already feels comfortable enough with his new home that he's willing to make a longterm commitment. He and the Rockets have agreed to a two-year, $90 million extension, ESPN reported. Durant was set to enter the final year of his current contract, and actually took $30 million less in total value than he could've received. 

LeBron James will reportedly aim to return from his injury in mid-November. He's dealing with sciatica, and the Lakers will take a cautious approach in his recovery to ensure he's fully healthy when he comes back. 

The Sacramento Kings and Keegan Murray agreed to a five-year, $140 million extension. Murray is now under contract with the Kings through the 2031 season. He was the fourth overall pick in the 2022 NBA Draft and immediately contributed to a Sacramento team that earned the three-seed in the Western Conference. Over three NBA seasons, he's averaged 13.3 points per game, 5.6 rebounds, and shot 37.2% from 3-point range. 

The veteran guard announced that he's retiring from the NBA after nine seasons.
