Nigeria’s U-20 women’s national team, the Falconets, have progressed to the third round of the 2024 U-20 World Cup qualifiers without kicking a ball.

In a statement by the Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) on their X handle, the Falconets’ second-round opponent, Mauritius, have withdrawn.

The first leg was initially scheduled to take place between October 6th and 8th in Mauritius.

While the return leg was billed between October 13th and 15th in Nigeria,

Mauritius got to the second round of the qualifiers after walking over Chad.

Two teams will represent Africa at the 2024 FIFA U-20 Women’s World Cup in Colombia.

At the 2022 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Costa Rica, the Falconets reached the quarterfinals and lost 2-0 to the Netherlands.

They have made it to the final of the U-20 World Cup twice, in 2010 and 2014, losing to Germany on both occasions.
