2022 World Cup: North Macedonia's winner v Italy set to Titanic music

North Macedonia produced one of the biggest shocks in international football history ever on Thursday evening as they dumped Italy out of the 2022 World Cup.

Italy had a disappointing 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign.

After emerging victorious at Euro 2020, they could only muster a second place finish in Group C, with Switzerland taking first place.

Thus, they had to win a playoff to book their place in Qatar.

They were drawn to face North Macedonia in their playoff semi-final. North Macedonia are a decent team who featured in Euro 2020.

Italy would have fancied their chances, though, and they went into the game in Palermo as the heavy favourites.

But, despite having the majority of possession and 32 shots during the match, Italy failed to break their opponents down.

And, incredibly, North Macedonia scored an incredible winner in the 92nd minute.

Aleksandar Trajkovski drove forward and unleashed a stunning effort that found the corner of the net.

North Macedonia’s players went absolutely wild, as did their fans inside the stadium. A few minutes later the final whistle blew, confirming their victory.

If there’s ever a goal that deserves the Titanic treatment, it’s Trajkovski’s beauty to knock Italy out of the World Cup.

North Macedonia will now play Portugal on Tuesday evening at the Estádio do Dragão.
