2022 World Cup: All 32 teams have been ranked from ‘Favourites’ to ‘Tourists’
The 2022 World Cup finals are now just five months away, but which national team will lift football’s most prestigious trophy in Qatar on December 18?
Well, one Brazilian TV show has ranked all 32 nations into four different categories: ‘Favourites’, ‘Candidates for the trophy’, ‘Can surprise’ and, finally, ‘Tourists’.
Four teams have been named as ‘Favourites’ including, unsurprisingly, Brazil. While the ‘Tourists’ category features 14 teams – almost half of the 32 competing at this winter’s tournament – including the host nation.
Let’s take a look at Sportv’s rankings, per Reddit:
Tourists
Costa Rica
Saudi Arabia
Canada
Iran
Morocco
Qatar
Tunisia
South Korea
Australia
USA
Mexico
Ghana
Japan
Cameroon
Yep, it’s hard to see any of these teams seriously challenging for World Cup glory later this year, isn’t it?
Interesting, Saudi Arabia finished above Japan and Australia in qualifying while Iran finished about South Korea. But both teams still miss out on a place in the next category.
Can surprise
Ecuador
Wales
Poland
Denmark
Serbia
Switzerland
Senegal
Uruguay
All of these teams have the potential to trouble the tournament’s big guns on their day.
Senegal, this year’s Africa Cup of Nations winners, could be a real threat. As could Wales, who have qualified for their first World Cup since 1958.
Candidates for the trophy
Croatia
Portugal
Netherlands
Belgium
England
Spain
England’s worrying recent form hasn’t cost them a place in the ‘Candidates for the trophy’ category.
The other teams are always a danger at major tournaments, especially Spain.
Meanwhile, we’ll find out whether Cristiano Ronaldo can inspire Portugal to glory in what is likely to be his final World Cup appearance.
Favourites
Argentina
Germany
France
Brazil
