16-year-old student wins Orerokpe 10km road race

A 16-year-old Student of Okpanam High School, Asaba, Delta State, Embah Godspower has emerged winner of the Orerokpe 10 KM Road Race pre-tournament event held at Stephen Keshi Stadium.

The Student finished the preparatory race in 17.47 minutes, in an event contested by 26 males and three females.

A student of West End Mixed Secondary School, Asaba, David Udoh, took the second position, with 18.27minutes while Akpata Onyeluka from Zappa Basic Secondary School came third within 18.53 minutes

Thirteen-year-old Olumide Elizabeth, a female Student also of Okpanam High School, followed closely as she chested the tape at 19.53 minutes.

The convener of the Orerokpe Road Race, Dr. Chris Ovie explained that the event was meant to discover young athletes and groom them to contribute to sports development in Nigeria.

According to him, the Orerokpe race has come to stay as the first pre-tournament trial took place in Benin City on August 21, 2024, now in Asaba, another in Warri on October 26, 2024, while the final held on December 7, at Orerokpe town, the Headhunters of Okpe Local Government Area of the State.

He said that the competition is open to all competitors across the world and the development of the race will bring global athletes to Nigeria.
