16-year-old Luke Littler loses thrilling World Darts Championship Final against Luke Humphries

16-year-old darts star Luke Littler lost his chance at a world title in a tense match against Luke Humphries Wednesday night (January 3).

The young player from Warrington, who powered into the World Darts Championship Final after beating Rob Cross on Tuesday (January 2), lost 4-7 after facing Luke Humphries in the tense final match in London.

The debutant has set Alexandra Palace alight over the last fortnight and was one win away from producing one of the greatest sporting stories of all time by becoming the youngest world champion.

But alas, his teenage dream was shattered when he faced Humphries in the World Championship final on Wednesday (January 3).

He fell at the final hurdle and was left in tears as Humphries triumphed to the new world number one with a 7-4 victory, which saw him reduced to tears as he lifted the Sid Waddell trophy for the first time.

It is a landmark success for the 28-year-old, who has now won four of the last five major tournaments after an incredible few months.

However, 16-year-old Littler looks set to be handed a lucrative place in the Premier League, which kicks off next month. And despite the defeat, he received a hero’s reception at the end of the match and is the story of the tournament.
