0 shots, 1 big chance missed: The QPR man who struggled to make an impact in defeat at Barnsley

QPR’s Championship promotion hopes were dealt a blow on Saturday afternoon, when they were beaten 1-0 by bottom side Barnsley at Oakwell.

After a goalless first half, Barnsley would take the lead with 15 minutes remaining, as January loan signing Domingos Quina fired in his goal for the club from the edge of the area.

That goal would ultimately prove enough to secure all three points for the Tykes, securing a first league win for manager Poya Asbaghi since his appointment at Oakwell back in November.

Defeat for QPR also means they missed the chance to climb to third in the table, and they are now six points adrift of the automatic promotion places, as they pursue a return to the Premier League.

Saturday’s game was also something of a first for QPR, as they failed to score in an away league game for the first time this season.

As a result, it is perhaps not surprising that the R’s top scorer this season, Lyndon Dykes, appeared to endure a rather difficult afternoon at Oakwell.

According to Sofascore, Dykes failed to take a single shot during the course of the 90 minutes against Barnsley, highlighting just how quiet the striker was in that game.

But despite being unable to get a shot away, he was still considered to have missed a big chance in the game.

That came late in the second half when the Scotland international narrowly failed to get his head on the end of a Yoann Barbet cross, at a time when any contact would surely have earned a point for QPR.

Beyond his struggles in front of goal, Dykes seemingly found it hard to get involved in other aspects of the game as well.

The striker completed just nine passes during that clash of Oakwell, fewer than any other player who was on the pitch for the entirety of the game.
