IOA's Anandeshwar Panday accused of ‘inappropriate behaviour’ during Birmingham CWG
Commonwealth Games (CWG) in Birmingham following a complaint of “inappropriate behaviour” by a female volunteer. A T2 privilege offers an accredited team official access to all competition and non-competition venues, as well as recognised city centres in the host city. In a letter dated August 5, which was made public on Thursday, Ashwin Lokare, Birmingham 2022 Head of Games Family Services, flagged the issue of Panday’s alleged misdemeanour to IOA’s acting president Anil Khanna while appreciating the efforts made by him to address the organising committee’s (OC) concerns.

Jeremy to bulk up to 73kg, will fight Achinta Sheuli for Olympic qualification
With the International Weightlifting Federation (IWF) scrapping 67kg from the Paris Games, Jeremy, who won the gold in the category at the CWG, will bulk up to compete in the 73kg weight class. However, India already has representation in the weight division in Sheuli, who is the national record holder and reigning CWG champion in the 73kg division. The two will now go head to head in a bid to seal qualification for the 2024 Olympics as only one lifter per country is allowed in a weight class.

Commonwealth Games gold medalwinning weightlifter has been attending endless felicitations since he arrived home from Birmingham. Despite the busy schedule, the 20-year-old took time out to chat with TOI, share his experiences and expectations from the future. Excerpts. How was the feeling returning home after almost three years?It was a great feeling, particularly as I was coming home with the reward that had kept me away from home for these three years. It felt nostalgic coming back to my village (Deulpur) and meet all my friends. So many people had turned up at the airport to receive me. Even in the village, the celebrations continued for days. How busy have you been after returning from Birmingham? Extremely busy. I wake up at 7 in the morning, and have to visit so many places. I manage to return home by 11 pm. Of course, I haven’t found time to train. I guess I can start training only after I go back to Patiala. Aren’t you tired of felicitations? Not yet. They do keep me busy, but never have I felt that that it is enough.
