TOISA 2021: Meet the nominees - Achinta Sheuli

The evaluation period for TOISA 2021 was from January 1 to December 31, 2021. All achievements during this time period were considered by the jury. Meet one of the big contenders for the TOISA 2021 Male Weightlifter of the Year award - Achinta Sheuli, who recently won a gold medal at the Commonwealth Games in Birmingham.

He won a silver medal at the 2021 Junior World Championships with a total lift of 313kg - 141kg in snatch and 172kg in clean & jerk. Achinta capped the year with a gold medal at the Commonwealth Championships in Tashkent, lifting a total of 316kg - 143kg snatch and 173kg clean & jerk.

It was his second Commonwealth Championships gold, after winning it in 2019 too in Apia, Samoa. For his achievements in 2021, Achinta has been nominated in The Times of India Sports Awards (TOISA 2021) 'Weightlifting Male Player of the Year' category. The award winners, male and female, in the last edition of TOISA were Saikhom Mirabai Chanu and Sathish Sivalingam.
