Grass court season is officially back with the 2023 Wimbledon Championships.
A month back, the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings defeated Gujarat Titans in Ahmedabad to clinch their fifth IPL title. The final match got interrupted multiple times due to rain and CSK got a revised target of 171 to be chased in 15 overs. The match went down to the wire as Ravindra Jadeja hit a boundary on the very last delivery and took CSK across the line. With that win, the MS Dhoni-led side equalled the record of Mumbai Indians for having the most number of IPL titles.
Tokyo Olympics gold medallist Neeraj Chopra will return to action after a one-month injury lay-off as he looks to win his second straight podium finish of the season at the Lausanne leg of the Diamond League. The star javelin thrower had made a perfect start to the Diamond League season with a top podium finish in Doha, Qatar, on May 5 with a fourth career-best throw of 88.67m but suffered a muscle strain while training later that month. He will return to action in Lausanne after pulling out of the FBK Games on June 4 at Hengelo (the Netherlands) and Paavo Nurmi Games in Turku, Finland on June 13 as a precautionary measure.
Australia batter Marnus Labuschagne is one of the most interesting characters in world cricket. Recently dethroned as the no.1 Test batter in the world, Labuschagne is a player with a few peculiarities and rarely takes the field without having a chewing gum in his mouth. As far as his batting is concerned, the 29-year-old is a traditional Test batter who not only puts runs on the table but also entertains the cross, no matter which part of the world he is playing in. The South Africa-born batter did exactly that on Day 1 of the ongoing second Ashes Test against England at Lord's.
NEW YORK: Some of the players to watch in NBA free agency, which starts Friday evening:
Cricket is becoming more fascinating with every passing day. Earlier, there was a time when teams used to easily defend a target like 150 in 20 overs but now, 200 runs are also being easily chased. Batters have adapted many different techniques like switch hit, square cut, scoop shot, etc to score quick runs. India batter Suryakumar Yadav and South Africa legend AB de Villiers are the biggest example of the players, who are known for their unconventional shots. However, a video is getting viral on social media, where a batter has invented a very unique type of shot.
England star player Joe Root registered a huge record during the end of Day 1 of the ongoing second Ashes Test at the iconic Lord's Stadium in London. He became only the third player in history to score more than 2,000 runs and also bag 20 wickets in the Ashes. Australia's Warwick Armstrong (2,172 runs and 74 wickets) and England's Wally Hammond (2,852 runs and 36 wickets) are the two others who achieved this milestone. After removing Travis Head and Cameron Green in the same over, Root attained this milestone.
Players unsually appealing for a wicket is quite a common scene on a cricket field. However, players not even making a genuine appeal is a bit rare. What is rare of the rarest is when a batter is out, yet the fielding side fails to appeal for the wicket. Call it nothing but a brainfade moment! A similar incident was witnessed during a Tamil Nadu Premier League match between Salem Spartans and Lyca Kovai Kings at SCF Cricket Ground on Tuesday.
