Jonny Bairstow's dismissal on Day 5 of the second Ashes Test between England and Australia sparked major controversy at Lord's with the Australian players getting booed by a major section of the crowd. During the 52nd over of England's second innings, Bairstow ducked a bouncer from Cameron Green and after the ball was safely inside wicket-keeper Alex Carey's gloves, he decided to leave his crease to have a chat with Ben Stokes on the non-striker end. However, the ball was not dead yet and a direct hit from Carey resulted in a massively controversial run-out. It is common practice among batters to inform the keeper or the umpire before they leave the crease after any ball but Bairstow did not do it on this occasion and Australia decided to not withdraw their appeal.
India's athlete Avinash Sable is set to compete in the men's 3000m steeplechase race at the Stockholm Diamond League 2023 athletics meet in Stockholm on Sunday. According to Olympics.com, Avinash Sable will participate in the second Diamond League competition of the season. The 28-year-old Sable competed in the Rabat Diamond League leg in May where he finished 10th with a time of 8:17.18s in his first 3000m steeplechase race of the year. Sable holds a national record of 8:11.20s in the men's 3000m steeplechase which he achieved at the Commonwealth Games 2022 in Birmingham to claim the silver medal.
The entire country is awaiting the comeback of India's ace pacer Jasprit Bumrah, who has been out of action, since September 2022. The 29-year-old pacer had sustained a back injury and has missed out on major tournaments like Asia Cup 2022, T20 World Cup 2022, and even World Test Championship final. But the off-spinner received a standing ovation from spectators at the 'Home of Cricket' after coming out to bat with Australia 264-9. For all his bravery, Lyon was still struggling to run.
As Australia all-rounder Cameron Green got England batter Ben Duckett to hit a bouncer towards the fine third-man area, fielder Mitchell Starc's eyes lit up. Starc seemed to be in absolute control as he grabbed the catch. Upon finishing the catch, the Australia star had a big smile on his face, confident that he did enough to send the England batter packing. But, little did he know of what was awaiting. As Duckett began walking towards the pavillion, he was recalled after the third umpire suggested that Starc's catch wasn't clean.
