Former Indian opener Aakash Chopra said that Team India should not rush back star all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja into the side for the third Test against England, since he will have to bowl a lot and also offer plenty with his bat and fielding. India will play the third Test against England at Rajkot from February 15 onwards. The series is level at 1-1, with three matches to go. Jadeja, who missed the second Test due to injury, has been included in the squad for the remainder of the series, but his being on the field is subject to his fitness, as per the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI).
Indian spin veteran Ravichandran Ashwin hailed speedster Jasprit Bumrah for his performance during the second Test against England, saying that the real "show stealer" in the match was "Boomball". England had taken a 1-0 lead by beating India by 28 runs in the first Test at Hyderabad, but Bumrah's 'Boomball', his pin-point yorkers and his ability to put batters under pressure put England's highly-attacking, positive and result-oriented "Bazball" approach in check during the second Test at Visakhapatnam, which India won by 106 runs. Bumrah was given the 'Player of the Match' award for taking nine wickets, including a six-wicket haul in the first innings. After the match, Bumrah soon toppled Ashwin to become the world's number-one Test bowler.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) named the squad for the remaining three Tests of the five-match series against England on Saturday. After the team announcement, India's out-of-favour pacer Umesh Yadav put a cryptic post on his Instagram story and fans wasted no time in relating it to the bowler being overlooked for England Tests. In the changes in the fast bowling line-up, India roped in Akash Deep, giving a maiden Test call-up to the pacer. Meanwhile, Umesh stayed out of consideration. He last played for India in June 2023, which happened to be a Test match vs Australia at The Oval.
Former England captain Michael Vaughan said that young Indian opener Yashasvi Jaiswal is a "problem" for the Three Lions and is an unbelievable player. Vaughan was speaking on the Club Prairie Fire Podcast. Jaiswal recently lit up Visakhapatnam with a marathon double century against England in the second Test, helping India in securing a win. Vaughan said on the podcast that he met Jaiswal in Mumbai last year and the next day he scored his maiden Indian Premier League (IPL) century against Mumbai Indians (MI) and now he has a double ton against the "best team in the world".
Instances of the bails not falling despite the ball making contact with the stumps have been quite common in the world of cricket. However, the bails remaining intact despite the ball passing through the stumps is definitely something that is unheard of in the world of cricket. Having said that, during a tennis ball tournament in Surat, the ball passed through the stumps but it wasn't enough to dislodge the bails. While the batter couldn't believe his luck while the bowler was left scratching his head and arguing with the umpire.
Star pacer Jasprit Bumrah led India's charge with the ball in the second Test against England, taking a combined nine wickets as the hosts levelled the five-match series. Bumrah sparked an England batting collapse in the first innings, claiming first innings to hand India a healthy lead. In the second innings, he struck three more times on a non-responsive pitch as India wrapped up the proceedings inside four days. Bumrah's brilliance saw him become the first Indian pacer to reach the pinnacle of the Test rankings.
