Rohan Bopanna brought the curtains down on his Davis Cup career with a comfortable straight set win with Yuki Bhambri, a victory that put India ahead 2-1 in the World Group II tie against Morocco, on Sunday. The 43-year-old Bopanna, coming out to play his 33rd and final tie, and Bhambri raced to a 6-2 6-1 win over Elliot Benchetrit and Younes Lalami Laaroussi in one hour and 11 minutes at the Mini Stadium. The Asia Cup 2023 matches have been severely affected by rain during the entire stretch of the competition and the final between India and Sri Lanka on Sunday was not different. The toss took place on time but the game did not start as rain halted proceedings at the R Premadasa Stadium in Colombo and the entire ground had to be covered properly by the groundstaff. If match is completely washed out on Sunday, the Asian Cricket Council (ACC) has kept a reserve day for the final on Monday (September 18). The final is the second match to have a reserve day after the India vs Pakistan Super 4 clash.
The Indian men's and women's football teams will fly out to Hangzhou on Sunday night for the Asian Games, quelling speculation about some logistical issues with regards to the flight tickets. Bhupender Singh Bajwa, the Indian chef de mission for the Asian Games, told PTI on Saturday that the tickets had been "issued".
