After losing the first Test in Hyderabad by a close margin of 28 runs, India fought back in style to win the remaining four Tests against England. Wins in Vizag, Rajkot, Ranchi, and now Dharamsala have helped the side return to the top position in the ICC Test Team Rankings, as per ICC.
India captain Rohit Sharma was full of praise for the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) after the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' announcement by the board's secretary Jay Shah. The Board president Roger Binny and Shah said that the initiative recognizes and rewards the efforts of players, promoting Test cricket as "pinnacle of the sport". The initiative comes as a welcome move by the cricketing fraternity, especially in the wake of the controversy surrounding certain players' decision to skip red-ball cricket.

Living up to its promise of giving highest priority to Test cricket, the BCCI has decided to give an incentive of Rs 45 lakh per game to all those who would play 75 per cent or more of the scheduled red-ball games in a particular season, Board secretary Jay Shah said on Saturday. A Test player, who appears in a possible 10 Tests in a season will be richer by a whopping Rs 4.50 crore as incentive apart from a possible Rs 1.5 crore (15 lakh per game) in usual match fee.
Days after his captain Rohit Sharma schooled him for not wearing a helmet while fielding in close range of a batter, youngster Sarfaraz Khan averted a major injury threat. Sarfaraz was fielding without a helmet at silly point on Day 3 of the fourth Test match against England in Ranchi. This is when Rohit told him to get the safety gear first. "Aye bhai, hero nahi banne ka (hey brother, don't be a hero here)," told the caring captain. The 12th man then gave Sarfaraz a helmet and the play resumed.

Former India captain Sunil Gavaskar was disappointed with Dhruv Jurel after the young wicketkeeper-batter threw his wicket in the first innings of the fifth Test against England in Dharamsala. Jurel, who won the player of the match award in the last game, walked in to bat at No. 7 after India lost the wicket of debutant batter Devdutt Padikkal. Jurel's stay lasted just 24 balls as he holed out to Ben Duckett at long-on. As he was walking back to the dressing room after his dismissal, Jurel kept staring at his bat with a look of disbelief on his face.
The BCCI on Saturday took an unprecedented step of awarding cash incentives to players who feature in Test cricket. This scheme is not only designed to encourage players to engage in the purest format of the sport but also addresses the evolving dynamics of the cricketing landscape, ensuring parity with match fees in other formats and league cricket. Commencing from the 2022-23 season, the 'Test Cricket Incentive Scheme' will serve as an additional reward structure on top of the existing match fee for Test matches, set at INR 15 lakhs.
