Wrestler Ravi Dahiya wins hat-trick of Asian Championship gold medals

Ravi Kumar Dahiya clinched his third straight Asian Championship gold medal with a dominating performance in the 57kg category, winning the title clash by technical superiority against Kazakhstan's Rakhat Kalzhan on Saturday. Ravi, the Tokyo Olympics silver medallist, conceded early lead in all his bouts, but he bounced back in tremendous fashion to outsmart his rivals in the men's freestyle event. It was his second final of the season, having won a silver at the Dan Kolov event in February.

Ravi, who hails from Nahri village in Sonepat, yet again showed his immense physical prowess and tactical superiority when he outsmarted Japan's Rikuto Arai (VSU) and pulled off a comprehensive 12-5 win over Mongolia's Zanabazar Zandanbud in the 57kg men's freestyle event.

Anshu Malik couldn’t repeat her last edition’s heroics. The girl from Nidani in Haryana’s Jind district, settled for silver after going down to reigning world champion (55kg), Japan’s Tsugumi Sakurai, in the final of the women’s freestyle 57kg category at the Asian Wrestling Championships in Mongolia’s Ulaanbaatar on Friday. Joining Anshu on the podium were Radhika who clinched a silver medal in the 65kg category, and Manisha who clinched bronze in the 62kg division.

Two-time Asian Champion Sarita Mor won two of her four group matches in the 59kg division to finish third in the field of five grapplers. Sarita lost to eventual gold medallist Sara Natami of Japan via technical superiority and suffered a narrow 2-1 loss to Shoovdor Baatarjav of Mongolia in her first two matches.
