FIM President Jorge Viegas led a presentation of FIM Endurance World Championship officials during the 24H SPA EWC Motos earlier today. The gathering followed on from a similar presentation at the WorldSBK event at Estoril recently.
Kevin Manfredi celebrated securing the Dunlop Superstock Trophy and FIM Endurance World Cup pole positions for the 24H SPA EWC Motos by revealing how team-mate Danny Webb’s journey back in time helped him to top spot. Webb had previous experience of Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps from riding classic bikes in various demonstration and race events at the legendary Belgian track.
Karel Hanika is the recipient of the first Nathalie Maillet Challenge trophy for his epic 2m18.845s lap of the 6.985-kilometre Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps this afternoon. Czech rider Hanika was the only FIM Endurance World Championship ace to set a sub-2m19s lap, a feat he achieved in the Red Rider session of Second Qualifying.
A stunning lap from Karel Hanika ensured YART – Yamaha Official Team EWC claimed a second consecutive pole position in this season’s FIM Endurance World Championship, which is returning to the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps for the first time since 2001 this weekend. The Czech, who received the Nathalie Maillet Challenge trophy for his charging performance on his Bridgestone-equipped Yamaha YZF-R1, was the only rider to dip below the 2m19s barrier.
Karel Hanika left it late to put YART in provisional pole at Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps following an action-packed first qualifying for the 24H SPA EWC Motos.
BMW Motorrad World Endurance Team was fastest as riders contesting the 24H SPA EWC Motos acclimatised to tackling the legendary Circuit de Spa-Francorchamps after dark during Night Practice. The Belgium-based squad clocked a 2m21.814s best with YART – Yamaha Official Team EWC second quickest, 0.221s behind with F.C.C.
