EWC Suzuka 8 Hours – Race Report

Whilst there might have been drama and heartbreak behind, it was a dominant win for #33 Team HRC in 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours with the line-up of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona taking the chequered flag by over a lap in the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship. The #33 CBR1000RR-RSP was peerless throughout the eight hours and save for a brief dice at the early restart there was little doubt of who was favourite baring the unexpected.

HRC take win, SERT first of season contenders in EWC Suzuka 8 Hours

Whilst there might have been drama and heartbreak behind, it was a dominant win for #33 Team HRC in 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours with the line-up of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona taking the chequered flag by over a lap in the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship. There has been late drama and a safety car in the final hour of the race after the leading season-contender #7 YART — Yamaha Official Team YZF-M1 got caught up with the #74 Akeno Speed – Yamaha Superstock bike at T13 such that rider Marvin Fritz had to dig the Yamaha out of the air barriers to get it back to the pits.

#33 Team HRC leads the way with #7 YART — Yamaha Official Team EWC heading the charge for the EWC regular runners as the third round of the FIM Endurance world Championship, the Suzuka 8 Hours, reaches its halfway mark. After a build-up week of alternating grey hazy humidity or rain, the skies seemingly cleared ahead of the race with the riders running across the start-finish straight to their bikes under predominantly blue skies with a picturesque clouds providing a contrast.

HRC from YART in morning WEC Suzuka Warm Up

Team HRC with Takumi Takahashi led the morning Warm Up for the 43rd running of the Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours, third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, posting a 2m07.957s aboard the Bridgetone-tyred #33 Team HRC CBR1000RR-RSP whilst Niccolò Canepa led the way for the season-contenders with a 2m08.861s on the similarly-shod YART — Yamaha Official Team EWC YZF-R1 with a 2m08.861s. Race day morning dawned humid but dry with a slowly lightening sky.

Pole for HRC for home EWC Suzuka 8 Hours

A delayed and revised Top 10 Trial for pole position for the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship saw Tetsuta Nagashima post a 2m04.934 to take pole position on the #33 Team HRC CBR1000RR-RSP for tomorrow’s 43rd running of the Coca-Cola Suzua 8 Hours whilst YART lead the way for the EWC season-contenders. After mixed conditions affected running so far at Suzuka the single pole lap format was revised for an open 40-minute session for the two nominated riders from each team. For Team HRC, it was Nagashima first to push the Bridgestones, with the pole lap set on his first flying lap, which would prove to be unbeatable for the rest of the session.

Kawasaki quickest in red-flagged Free Practice Two for EWC Suzuka

Leon Haslam was the quickest rider in a Free Practice Two session which was interrupted by three red flags at Suzuka for the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship, the Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours. Haslam posted a 2m06.726s on the #10 Kawasaki Racing Team Suzuka 8H ZX-10R early in the session before the first red flag which came after 6 minutes when the #38 K’s Racing Works Superstock rider Yoshinori Yamauchi had an off at T1.
