Fritz sorry for late podium loss in EWC Suzuka 8 Hours

Marvin Fritz apologised to YART – Yamaha Official Team EWC after his rare mistake cost the Yamalube-backed squad a seemingly certain podium finish in the 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race, round three of the 2022 FIM Endurance World Championship. Along with team-mates Niccolò Canepa and Karel Hanika, Fritz had fought back into podium contention after an issue at the start of Sunday’s race left the #7 Yamaha YZF-R1 down in P25 on the opening lap.

More technical checks required before EWC Suzuka 8 Hours results go final

The results of the 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours Endurance Race remain provisional while technical checks are carried out. At the completion of the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship on Sunday, the bikes of the top 10 classified finishers were subjected to the usual rigorous checking process.

EWC Suzuka 8 Hours – Race Report

Whilst there might have been drama and heartbreak behind, it was a dominant win for #33 Team HRC in 43rd Coca-Cola Suzuka 8 Hours with the line-up of Tetsuta Nagashima, Takumi Takahashi and Iker Lecuona taking the chequered flag by over a lap in the third round of the FIM Endurance World Championship. The #33 CBR1000RR-RSP was peerless throughout the eight hours and save for a brief dice at the early restart there was little doubt of who was favourite baring the unexpected.

There has been late drama and a safety car in the final hour of the race after the leading season-contender #7 YART — Yamaha Official Team YZF-M1 got caught up with the #74 Akeno Speed – Yamaha Superstock bike at T13 such that rider Marvin Fritz had to dig the Yamaha out of the air barriers to get it back to the pits.

#33 Team HRC leads the way with #7 YART — Yamaha Official Team EWC heading the charge for the EWC regular runners as the third round of the FIM Endurance world Championship, the Suzuka 8 Hours, reaches its halfway mark. After a build-up week of alternating grey hazy humidity or rain, the skies seemingly cleared ahead of the race with the riders running across the start-finish straight to their bikes under predominantly blue skies with a picturesque clouds providing a contrast.
