Star shuttlers HS Prannoy and PV Sindhu received first-round byes as India were handed a mixed draw in the individual events of badminton competition at the Asian Games on Sunday. World No. 7 Prannoy, who missed the team championships final due to a back injury will hope to recover in time as he is pitted against Batdavaa Munkhbat of Mongolia in the second round, while Kidambi Srikanth, a former world No. 1, will face Le Duc Phat of Vietnam in the opening round. World championships bronze medallist Prannoy, seeded fifth, might face Malaysia's Lee Zii Jia or world champion Kunlavut Vitidsarn of Thailand in the quarterfinal.

While the top-seeded Indian men's team saw GM Arjun Erigaisi opening the scoring with a win over IM Amartuvshin Ganzorig of Mongolia with black pieces, Vidit S Gujrathi and R Praggnanandhaa added to the points.

It won't be a medal match but an India vs Pakistan contest is always among the big games, the two teams will be facing each other in a Pool A match in men's hockey on Saturday. Meanwhile, athletes like huddler Jyothi Yarraji, long jumpers Murali Sreeshankar and Jeswin Aldrin will also be in action during the qualifying events.

Indian swimmers Advait Page and Sajan Prakash made it to the final of men's 200 m backstroke and men's 200 m butterfly events at the ongoing Asian Games in Hangzhou on Friday. In men's 200 m backstroke, with the timings of 2:03.01, his new personal best, Advait managed to come within the list of top eight swimmers qualifying for the final, finishing seventh. Srihari however, finished 14th with timings of 2:07.19, which was not enough to help him reach finals.

The gold rush continued for India at the Asian Games 2023 as shooters Sarabjot Singh, Arjun Singh Cheema and Shiva Narwal clinched the top prize in Men's 10m Air Pistol Team event. Roshibina Devi also added a silver in Women's 60kg Wushu final and Anush Agarwalla made history by winning India's first medal in individual dressage equestrian event at Asian Games. The Indian athletes will continue their journey on Friday (September 29) as Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni will take part in the tennis men's doubles final. The men's and women's squash teams will also be in action in semi-final match while the athletics contingent will finally begin their campaign in the competition.
