The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced the schedule for Women's Premier League (WPL) 2023 after the conclusion of the Women's Premier League Auction in Mumbai. In its inaugural edition, 5 teams - Delhi Capitals, Gujarat Giants, Mumbai Indians, Royal Challengers Bangalore & UP Warriorz splurged their purse to acquire some of the best talents in the international and domestic circuit.
Delhi Capitals started slow at the Women's Premier League auction on Monday but were able to end up with a solid squad with big names like Jemimah Rodrigues, Shafali Verma and Australia legend Meg Lanning. While the action played out mostly in their favour, Delhi Capitals chairman and co-owner Parth Jindal said that it was a challenge for him and his team to prepare for the auction as most of the players were unknown to him. Jemimah ended up being the costliest player for the Delhi franchise with Rs 2.2 crore while the U-19 Women's World Cup winner Shafali Verma was bought for Rs 2 crore.

The franchise bagged batter Jemimah Rodrigues (INR 2.2 crore) and all-rounders Radha Yadav (INR 40 lakh) and Shikha Pandey (INR 60 lakh) along with the U-19 Women T20 World Cup winners Shafali Verma (INR 2 core) and Titas Sadhu (INR 25 lakh). Delhi Capitals also picked up Australia Women's team Captain Meg Lanning (INR 1.1 core) and South African all-rounder Marizanne Kapp (INR 1.5 crore).
Women's Premier League Auction 2023: Most of the top players have already been snapped up by the five teams. So far, India star Smriti Mandhana is the costliest player. She was picked by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping INR 3.4 crore. Among overseas players, Australia's Ashleigh Gardner was picked by Gujarat Giants for INR 3.2 crore and England's Nat Sciver-Brunt got the same amount from Mumbai Indians. India captain Harmanpreet Kaur went to Mumbai Indians for INR 1.80 crore while Deepti Sharma went to UP Warriorz for INR 2.60 crore. Shafali Verma got INR 2 crore from Delhi Capitals. Former BCCI president Sourav Ganguly will be returning to the IPL fold as Director of Cricket with the Delhi Capitals during the upcoming edition starting in April, sources close to the development confirmed. Istanbul is among the five venues shortlisted to host the IPL auction which is likely to be held on December 16, according to a BCCI official.
