The 2023 World Cup had an interesting sub plot that added a late twist after the halfway mark.
BENGALURU : A seemingly unstoppable India stand on the verge of their first World Cup final since the triumphant 2011 campaign on home soil but must face their bogey team in major events to get there, as they take on New Zealand in Wednesday's semi-final in Mumbai.
Most cricketers would argue that good preparations make for good World Cup campaigns but after an injury-plagued buildup and a string of other setbacks Australia spinner Adam Zampa might have a different take.
MUMBAI: Rohit Sharma's boyhood cricket coach says he will be the "richest person in the world" if the India captain lifts the World Cup - despite never charging for a training session.
BENGALURU : Indian spinner Kuldeep Yadav expects the bowlers to have a tough time at Mumbai's batsman-friendly Wankhede Stadium when the hosts take on New Zealand in their World Cup semi-final on Wednesday.
After Pakistan's disastrous campaign in the ICC World Cup 2023 ended with a defeat against England, Morne Morkel has stepped down as the bowling coach of the Men in Green's team, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) announced on Monday. The former South Africa fast bowler joined the Pakistan team on a six-month contract in June this year. Morkel's first assignment with the men's team was their tour to Sri Lanka for the two-match Test series. The Pakistan cricket body will announce his replacement in due course.
Wicketkeeper batter KL Rahul, who returned to form scoring the fastest century for India in a World Cup, was a relieved man on Sunday, having spent some time in the middle before the big semi-final against New Zealand. Rahul took 62 balls to smash the fastest century for India in a World Cup to better skipper Rohit Sharma's record (63 balls vs Afghanistan) as India posted a massive 410 for 4 against the Netherlands in their last group stage match. "Not gotten a lot of time (in the middle) in the last two games, so it was nice to get some time today," Rahul, who ended up with 102 off 64 balls, said in the mid-innings break. "Batting at No 5, it's important to get that confidence, it was a good knock. Getting that confidence to hit sixes towards the end was important," he said.
