UK Media Targets India Over England Spinner Shoaib Bashir's Visa Row

Uncapped spinner Shoaib Bashir was effectively ruled out of the first Test of England's tour of India on Tuesday after he was forced to return home to resolve visa issues. Surrey-born Bashir, a 20-year-old player of Pakistani heritage, was unable to join the rest of the squad flying to India from a training camp in Abu Dhabi ahead of the series opener in Hyderabad starting Thursday following a delay with his visa application. The England and Wales Cricket Board had hoped they could count on assistance from their counterparts at the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) in resolving the issue but things didn't go the way they expected it to be.

Rachin Ravindra Named ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer Of The Year Ahead Of Yashasvi Jaiswal

New Zealand's young batter Rachin Ravindra was on Wednesday crowned ICC Men's Emerging Cricketer of the Year for 2023. Rachin announced himself to the world as he reigned supreme during last year's ODI World Cup amassing 578 runs and has been recognized for his on-field prowess. The 24-year-old faced fierce competition for the coveted accolade but managed to beat the likes of South Africa pacer Gerald Coetzee, Sri Lanka speedster Dilshan Madushanka and India batter Yashasvi Jaiswal. "It's obviously a very special feeling. Whenever you get recognised by the ICC for something it is always special. Reflecting back, it has been a pretty whirlwind last year and having the opportunity to play so much cricket in so many different environments has been very special," Rachin said, according to ICC.

Hayley Matthews Crowned As ICC Women's T20I Cricketer Of The Year

West Indies skipper Hayley Matthews on Wednesday was named the ICC Women's T20I Cricketer of the Year and became just the second women's cricketer from the Caribbean to get the honour. Before Matthews, former skipper Stafanie Taylor was crowned with the coveted accolade in 2015. Matthews was sensational with her skills from the bat and the ball. She defeated competition from Australia's Ellyse Perry, England's Sophie Ecclestone, and Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu. "I have been really blessed to have a pretty good year with West Indies wearing those colours, performing really well and helping the team," Matthews said, according to ICC.

Pat Cummins Breaks Silence On Glenn Maxwell's Hospitalisation After Late-Night Party

They "didn't cross paths" but Australia captain Pat Cummins was at the same venue from where his World Cup-winning teammate Glenn Maxwell was rushed to hospital after a reported late-night drinking session and the star pacer responded to the incident by saying "any decision you make you've got to own it". Both Cummins and Maxwell were attending a concert by 'Six and Out', the band which features former pacer Brett Lee, in Adelaide. Cummins said he left the venue much before his teammate allegedly lost consciousness and had to be taken to the hospital in an ambulance.

"If England Play 'Bazball'...": Mohammed Siraj's Warning To Ben Stokes And Co Ahead Of Test Series

India fast bowler Mohammed Siraj believes England's much-hyped 'Bazball' strategy won't work in Indian conditions and if the visitors go with their ultra-aggressive approach then the match may get over within two days. 'Bazball', a hell-for-leather attacking batting approach, coined after Test team head coach Brendon McCullum, has given England tremendous success last year but it will face its baptism by fire on sub-continental tracks, which offer turn and bounce in equal measure.
