New season, same optimism. Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) will look to go all the way this time around when the new season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) kicks off. The tournament is expected to begin in the final week of March, following the conclusion of the Women's Premier League (WPL). Over the past two seasons, only a handful to teams have failed to win the IPL title, with RCB being one of them. RCB have played three finals under different captains (Anil Kumble in 2009, Daniel Vettori in 2011 and Virat Kohli in 2016) but an IPL title has eluded the franchise.

Indian wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik will work with England Lions' as batting consultant for a brief period of nine days when the side will tour India. Karthik will be a part of the side's coaching team on the tour, starting with a warm-up game in Ahmedabad on January 12, followed by three unofficial four-day Tests from January 17 at the same venue. Karthik, who plays for Royal challengers Bangalore in the IPL, mainly comes in as a cover for Lions' batting consultant Ian Bell, who is currently on Big Bash League duty with Melbourne Renegades.

RCB eventually got him for Rs 11.5 crore. Yash Dayal, who released by Gujarat Titans ahead of the auction, was also bought by the franchise for Rs 5 crore.

Bengal managed 225 all out in 50 overs, largely due to Shahbaz Ahmed's stellar hundred that had four sixes and as many boundaries.
