Ravichandran Ashwin, one of the sharpest thinkers in world cricket, feels that he has reached a stage in his career where he is not bothered about assessment of his own performance after every game. While the COVID-19 pandemic has been hard on a lot of people, the wily off-spinner feels, that the last two years have been kind to him with continued success in Tests at home and a productive tour of Australia, where India made history by winning back to back series. The 35-year-old, who has taken 442 wickets in 86 Tests, also made a white-ball comeback after four years and featured in last year's T20 World Cup in the UAE.
Ben Stokes said he wanted everyone in the side to "feel free" under his leadership as James Anderson and Stuart Broad were recalled for the first Test against New Zealand at Lord's starting Thursday. Stokes has taken over as skipper from Joe Root, with England on a woeful run of one win in 17 Tests. But the all-rounder told reporters at Lord's on Wednesday: "There's been a lot of talk about a 'reset', which is a word I don't like.

When England played New Zealand at Lord's last summer, caution took over.
England will hope to make a fresh start under their new leadership duo of captain Ben Stokes and Brendon McCullum against the coach's native New Zealand at Lord's on Thursday. Stokes, himself born in New Zealand but brought up in Cumbria, northwest England, has succeeded Joe Root as England's Test skipper after his close friend stood down following a run of poor results. Chris Silverwood's sacking after a 4-0 Ashes series loss in Australia paved the way for McCullum's appointment as England's new Test coach, with the former New Zealand captain's first match in charge pitting him against a side he knows so well. England hope the attacking approach McCullum pioneered while kick-starting a New Zealand revival that culminated in the Black Caps being crowned World Test champions last year, by when he had retired as a player, will rub off on his new team. "My job will be to plan as if you'll live forever, but live as if you'll die tomorrow," said McCullum ahead of a three-match series.
West Indies all-rounder David Holford, who played 24 Tests between 1966 and 1977, has died aged 82, Cricket West Indies announced on Tuesday. A leg-spinner and lower-order batsman, Holford is perhaps best remembered for his part in an extraordinary, match-saving effort during the Lord's Test of 1966 when he made an unbeaten century alongside his cousin Garfield Sobers in a stand of 274.
