'This happiness can't be explained in words': Death-overs specialist Arshdeep Singh looking forward to potential India debut against South Africa

Arshdeep Singh was getting ready for his IPL team Punjab Kings' last league match against the Sunrisers Hyderabad when he got a call from the Indian team management. The call was about his maiden call-up to the Indian team. Arshdeep had a big smile on his face but within seconds, the 23-year-old pacer shifted his focus to the next match he was going to play. After Punjab Kings won that match, by 5 wickets, the team came back to the dressing room and celebrated Arshdeep's success. The 23-year-old from Guna in Madhya Pradesh went wicketless in that match, but was again very economical, giving away just 25 runs in his 4 overs. He had done enough to impress the selectors overall. This is his fourth IPL season and he has taken 40 wickets overall in 37 matches and has a strike rate of 18.93. Arshdeep's ability to bowl wide yorkers, targeting the block-hole, and not giving away too many runs, earned him an India call up and a place in the squad for the home series against South Africa next month. India are scheduled to play a five-match T20I series against South Africa, starting June 9. TimesofIndia.com caught up with Arshdeep, who signed off IPL 2022 with 10 wickets in 14 matches at an economy rate of 7.70, to talk about his maiden India call-up, sharing the ball with South African star pacer Kagiso Rabada, on being tagged as a death-overs specialist, playing under KL Rahul and much more.

Australia bids farewell to Andrew Symonds after car crash tragedy

Andrew Symonds was remembered as a supremely talented cricketer with "a pure heart" at a memorial service on Friday for the Australian former all-rounder who died aged 46. Symonds was killed in a single-vehicle accident in northern Queensland earlier this month, leaving Australian cricket reeling once more following the recent and unexpected deaths of greats Shane Warne and Rod Marsh. Family, friends, fans and former teammates gathered to celebrate his life at a public memorial service at a stadium in the coastal city of Townsville, where he lived. Former cricketers Ricky Ponting, Allan Border, Adam Gilchrist, Darren Lehmann and Ian Healy turned out for the man affectionately known as 'Roy'. It followed a private funeral where a cricket bat, fishing rod, crab pot and a number of hats were placed alongside the timber coffin, local media reported.

IPL 2022: Exclusive - Back your strengths and bowl fast, says Mohsin Khan

LSG's Mohsin Khan on what makes him tick, why dot balls rule and how he made his mark this season...Left-arm seamer Mohsin Khan was a bright streak in Lucknow Super Giants' maiden IPL campaign. Although an India cap has eluded him for the moment, expect to hear more of this cricketer from Sambhal in UP who impressed with his skills and poise under pressure. Mohsin has used his height, hit the deck hard, hurried batters and created problems with his angles and slower ones. Some decisive spells have ensured the best Powerplay economy rate (5. 25, minimum 10 overs) of all bowlers this season. TOI caught up with the 23-year-old during the playoffs for a quick peek into his methods. Excerpts...Decluttering the mindWhen I mark my run-up and run in to bowl, my mind is blank. The intent is to back your strengths: jo mera normal ball hai, usi ko daalna hai. I back myself to bowl the good deliveries I have.
