Darwin Nunez vowed to write himself into Liverpool's history after securing a move from Benfica on Tuesday for a fee that could rise to a club record 100 million euros (85 million pounds, $105 million). The Champions League finalists have splashed an initial 75 million euros on the 22-year-old, with an extra 25 million in performance-related add-ons according to figures released by Benfica. That could take Nunez's move beyond the 75 million euros Liverpool paid for Virgil Van Dijk in January 2018 and make him the fifth most expensive transfer in Premier League history.

Even as a skinny 13 year-old, there was little doubt where Darwin Núñez would end up. “I still remember the first time I saw him play,” says José Perdomo, the man who first discovered Liverpool’s record signing. “Darwin was taller than most kids of his age, very skinny – a player made for Europe.”
Liverpool have signed Darwin Nunez from Benfica for a transfer fee which could rise as high as €100m (£86.9m). Ad/> Nunez will join the League Cup and FA Cup holders for an initial fee of €80m (£68.3m), with up to €20m (£17.3m) in add-ons which could make him Liverpool's record signing, trumping the £75m the club paid for defender Virgil van Dijk from Southampton.
