BCCI Central Contracts: Ajinkya Rahane, Cheteshwar Pujara Dropped From Grade A to B
Out of favour veteran batter Cheteshwar Pujara and former Test vice-captain Ajinkya Rahane were downgraded in the latest central contracts list of the BCCI that was ratified by the Board's Apex Council on Wednesday. The BCCI has four categories -- A which has annual remuneration of Rs 7 crore while A, B and C categories are valued at Rs 5 crore, Rs 3 crore and Rs 1 crore respectively. Last time, 28 cricketers were provided central contracts but this year, 27 have been awarded contracts with Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah static as A players.
IPL Teams To Start Training In Mid-March, Five Practice Venues Identified: Report
All the IPL teams will start training in the city from March 14 or 15 onwards and five practice venues have been identified. It is understood that the MCA ground in suburban Bandra Kurla Complex, MCA ground in Thane, the Dr DY Patil University ground and a football pitch along with the CCI (Cricket Club of India) and the Reliance Corporate Park ground in Ghansoli have been identified by the authorities as practice venues for the cash-rich tournament, which begins on March 26. Players are likely to start coming into the city from March 8.

The BCCI in all likelihood will ask veteran keeper Wriddhiman Saha about his recent outburst after being dropped from the Indian team as it is in violation of protocols to be followed by a centrally contracted cricketer. The annual central contracts that players sign (Saha is in Group B with annual retainership of Rs 3 crore) has a clause 6.3, which apparently he has violated.

Wriddhiman Saha on Tuesday took to Twitter to explained the reason behind why he is not revealing the name of the "journalist" who had sent "threatening" messages to him for saying no to an interview. Saha had, on Sunday, shared screenshot of messages he received from the "journalist" following the Indian selection committee's decision to drop him from the Test squad for the two-match series against Sri Lanka.

The BCCI will ask out-of-favour senior keeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha about the context of his tweet which alleged that a journalist had threatened him for not agreeing to give an interview. Saha, 37, who has been dropped from Indian team, had taken to Twitter to allege that one "respected" journalist took an aggressive tone after his refusal to grant him an interview. After his tweet, former head coach Ravi Shastri, and former stars like Virender Sehwag and Harbhajan Singh came out in his support and asked him to reveal the name of the journalist.
Apex Council Meeting: BCCI To Decide On Resumption Of CK Nayudu Trophy, Senior Women's T20
The fate of C K Nayudu Trophy and Senior Women's T20, which were postponed due to the COVID-19 pandemic, will be decided and the Local Organising Committee for 2023 ODI World Cup is likely to be formed when the BCCI Apex Council meets virtually on March 2. The CK Nayudu Trophy for U25 cricketers and Women's Senior T20 event had to be postponed last month due to rising cases of COVID-19. Ranji Trophy too was postponed but with the cases coming down, the BCCI decided to organise the premier domestic event from February 17. The first round was completed on Sunday.

Amazon's rivalry in India with oil-to-retail conglomerate Reliance Industries looks set to head to the cricket field, where they will likely battle media heavyweights for telecast rights to the Indian Premier League (IPL) with its hundreds of millions of viewers. Amazon.com Inc and Reliance Industries Ltd are expected to take on India units of Sony Group Corp and Walt Disney Co for exclusive five-year TV and digital broadcast rights to the two-month series of matches, at a cost that could run to a record Rs 50,000 crore ($6.7 billion), sources familiar with the companies' plans said.
