"Here To Play An Away Game": Gujarat Titans Wicketkeeper Wriddhiman Saha On Playing IPL Qualifier in Kolkata

The hurt and disillusionment was palpable as a disgruntled India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha on Monday called the Motera Stadium his new "home ground", having played all his life at the iconic Eden Garden. It would not have been easy for the Gujarat Titans glovesman to return to the venue, where he made a dream Ranji debut with a hundred in 2007, but won't play for the state after a run-in with the establishment.

Livid Wriddhiman Saha Seeks NOC to Quit Bengal After Being Named In Ranji Trophy Squad, CAB Mum

Veteran India wicketkeeper-batter Wriddhiman Saha dropped a fresh bombshell on Tuesday, by seeking an NOC to leave his domestic Ranji side Bengal. The development comes less than 24 hours after he was named in the Bengal Ranji side for its upcoming quarterfinal against Jharkhand in Bengaluru from June 6. According to sources close to Saha, the 37-year-old, who had pulled out of the Ranji league stage citing "personal reasons", was not consulted before naming him in the squad. After learning of the development, an annoyed Saha spoke to Cricket Association of Bengal (CAB) president Avishek Dalmiya, seeking NOC to leave Bengal, a source privy to the matter said.

Wriddhiman Saha Back For Bengal's Ranji QF vs Jharkhand, Mohammed Shami's Participation Subject To BCCI's Clearance

Three months after refusing to play for Bengal after his India career ended, veteran stumper Wriddhiman Saha has agreed to play for Bengal in the all-important Ranji Trophy quarter-final against Jharkhand in Bengaluru from June 6. The CAB also named speedster Mohammed Shami in the squad although his participation will depend on clearance from the BCCI and head coach Rahul Dravid taking his workload management into account. However, it was 37-year-old Saha, whose comeback headlined the Bengal squad after he had refused to play red ball cricket citing "personal reasons".

"Understands His Game, Plays Well In Powerplay": Gary Kirsten On Wriddhiman Saha

Gujarat Titans mentor Gary Kirsten on Sunday heaped praise on Wriddhiman Saha, saying the wicket-keeper batter understands his game really well and is "great" against the short-ball. Gujarat Titans rode on Saha's solid 67 not out to tame Chennai Super Kings by seven wickets and book their place in the Qualifier 1. Saha scored an unbeaten 67. "We have been obviously very impressed (with Saha). It is great to have him (Saha) in the team. He is a real professional. And he has got good experience in the IPL and in all (forms) of cricket," Kirsten said at the virtual-post-match press conference.

IPL 2022: Wriddhiman Saha Fifty Takes Gujarat Titans To Easy Win vs Hapless Chennai Super Kings

Wriddhiman Saha's solid 67 not out after a top-class bowling performance set up Gujarat Titans' seven-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings in the IPL on Sunday, securing a top-two finish in the team standings. Gujarat bowlers put up a clinical show to restrict CSK to a below-par 133/5 despite a fine half-century by Ruturaj Gaikwad. Saha, who struck eight boundaries and a six in his 57-ball knock, anchored the chase nicely to get Gujarat home in 19.1 overs. While CSK were already out of the play-off race, the win for Gujarat guarantees them a top-two finish on the points table in their debut season, providing them with two opportunities to reach the final.

IPL 2022: Not Rishabh Pant Or Ishan Kishan, This Wicketkeeper-Batter Has Impressed Virender Sehwag The Most

In the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 season, some young players have come to the forefront and have hogged the limelight. Certain players have shown they have no stage fright and can perform under the most intense situations. One such player is Punjab Kings' wicketkeeper-batter Jitesh Sharma who played an unbeaten 38-run knock against Rajasthan Royals on Saturday at the Wankhede Stadium. Former India batter Virender Sehwag reserved some high praise for Jitesh, saying he has impressed him more than Rishabh Pant or Ishan Kishan.

BCCI Bans Journalist For 2 Years For "Intimidating" Wriddhiman Saha

The Board of Control for Cricket in India on Wednesday banned senior journalist Boria Majumdar for 2 years for intimidating Wriddhiman Saha. The veteran India wicket-keeper had alleged that he was intimidated by a journalist for not giving an interview. He revealed all the details to a BCCI committee probing the matter in March earlier this year. Journalist Boria Majumdar in a Twitter video identified himself as the one accused by Saha. A three-member committee had met Saha in New Delhi to probe into the 37-year-old's allegations against the previously unnamed journalist. "I have told the committee everything I know. I have shared all the details with them. I can't tell you much right now. BCCI has asked me not to talk about the meeting outside as they will answer all your queries," Saha told reporters after appearing before the committee in New Delhi.
