NEW DELHI : India will begin their next World Test Championship (WTC) cycle with a two-test series in West Indies next month, which will be followed by eight limited-overs matches, the Caribbean cricket board has said.
Brandon King smashed a run-a-ball 112 as the West Indies gave themselves a confidence boost ahead of the World Cup qualifier by thrashing the United Arab Emirates in the first one-day international on Sunday. The tourists bowled out the UAE for 202 and then chased down the target with 14.4 overs to spare to secure a seven-wicket win. The West Indies are preparing for the World Cup qualifying event in Zimbabwe which starts on June 18 and also features the UAE.
West Indies batter Devon Thomas has been provisionally banned for match-fixing, the International Cricket Council (ICC) announced on Tuesday.
The International Cricket Council on Tuesday suspended West Indies batter Devon Thomas for allegedly "contriving" to fix games in 2021 Lanka Premier League besides indulging in corrupt practices in two other franchise tournaments in the same year. Thomas, who last played for the West Indies in August 2022, has been charged with seven counts under the ICC's anti-corruption code. He has also been named in the upcoming ODI series against the UAE in Dubai.
Ten teams will take part in the 2023 ODI World Cup Qualifier in Zimbabwe from June 18 to July 9, the ICC announced on Tuesday. Each match will be high stakes, with teams contesting for two places at the World Cup in India in October-November. The 10 teams taking part in the qualifier are split into two groups of five teams. Hosts Zimbabwe, the West Indies, the Netherlands, Nepal and the United States make up Group A, while Sri Lanka, Ireland, Scotland, Oman and the United Arab Emirates form Group B.

West Indies men's lead selector Desmond Haynes informed that Shimron Hetmyer had made himself available for the ODI World Cup 2023 qualifiers in Zimbabwe but did not get selected as per ESPNcricinfo. He further said that the selectors wanted to keep the same team which did well in the white ball series in South Africa earlier this year. Hetmyer has impressed everyone with his recent performances in the ongoing Indian Premier League tournament. He has played 13 matches so far in IPL where he has scored 254 runs with a strike rate of 150.30.
The UAE will play three one-day internationals against West Indies in Sharjah next month.
