The fifth and final Ashes Test against Australia last week was his last appearance in a international match. In 167 Test matches, Broad has taken a whopping total of 604 wickets, becoming the fifth-highest wicket-taker in Tests and second for his side. Jasprit Bumrah is all set to make his return from a prolonged injury hiatus when he leads the Indian cricket team in the three-match T20I series against Ireland. It is an extremely good news for India ahead of the ICC World Cup 2023 to get their star fast bowler back in action. However, the road has not been easy for Bumrah who missed the 2022 T20 World Cup and the 2023 Indian Premier League due to injury concerns. England are set to face India in a five-match series next year during the World Test Championship (WTC) 2023-25 cycle. The games will start in January and go till March 2024. While for India it will be an opportunity to grab valuable WTC points against a strong opponent, England too will be raring to showcase their 'Bazball' approach on the soil of one of the most successful Test teams in the world. Former England skipper Nasser Hussain expects pace bowler James Anderson to tour India for the gruelling five-Test series early next year, saying that with pacer Stuart Broad and all-rounder Moeen retiring, the experience of the 41-year-old will come in handy in sub-continental conditions. Anderson, the highest wicket-taking quick in Test cricket, would be more than keen to tour India for the series, scheduled to commence in January next year, after an ordinary bowling effort during the recently concluded Ashes.
Confirming that the fifth Ashes Test against Australia was the last traditional format match of his career, England all-rounder Moeen Ali said he will not travel to India next year for a Test series. India will host England for a five-match Test series across January and March 2024. "There is no way I am going (to India). It is nice to finish like this. Test cricket is the best cricket. I wish I could rewind time," Moeen was quoted as saying by the Guardian. Moeen has played 68 Tests for England making 3,094 runs with five hundreds and 15 fifties. The off-spinner also has taken 204 wickets in Test cricket.
English pacer Stuart Broad's retirement announcement has furthermore firmed the decision of James Anderson to continue his international career with the England team.
