The Proteas find themselves in a difficult position after a batting collapse spurred on by Lauren Bell saw England in commanding position on day two of the sole Test at Mangaung Oval.
England bounced back with a clinical six-wicket win to level the three-match series in the second ODI at Kingsmead in Durban.
India captain Harmanpreet Kaur climbed to the joint ninth spot while opener Smriti Mandhana remained fourth in the latest ICC Women's ODI rankings, released in Dubai on Tuesday. Kaur, who played an important part in her team's six-wicket victory over New Zealand in the third ODI of their ICC Women's Championship series in Ahmedabad, had slipped three slots after the first two matches. However, her 59 not out off 63 balls pushed her back into the top 10. Left-hander Mandhana, who won the player of the match award for her knock of 100, added 23 rating points to reach a tally of 728, just five less than Sri Lanka's Chamari Athapaththu in the list led by Natalie Sciver-Brunt of England with 760 rating points.
India off-spinner Deepti Sharma has been rewarded for her excellent recent form as she moved up two places to reach career-high second spot in the latest ICC women's ODI rankings for bowlers on Tuesday. On the back of some strong performances in the recent ICC Women's T20 World Cup in the UAE, Deepti has been one of India's best players through the opening two matches of her side's ongoing white-ball series against New Zealand at home.
Both Pakistan and India are out of the Women's T20 World Cup from the group stage. India's hopes of qualifying for the semi-finals hinged of Pakistan's match against New Zealand. Had Pakistan won the match, the Harmanpreet Kaur-led India would have entered the last four stage. Pakistan restricted New Zealand in 110/6 in 20 overs but then got out for just 56 - the second lowest total in the history of Women's T20 World Cup. What was even worse that Pakistan dropped at least eight catches.
Indian skipper Harmanpreet Kaur on Tuesday climbed four spots to be joint 12th in the ICC Women's T20 batting rankings. Off-spinner Shreyanka Patil surged nine places to be 29th in the bowlers' rankings. Harmanpreet now shares the 12th position with Sri Lanka's Harshitha Samarawickrama, boasting 610 rating points. In contrast, Smriti Mandhana slipped one place to fifth, and Jemimah Rodrigues dropped two spots to 20th.
England put up an all-round show to outplay South Africa by seven wickets for their second successive win in the Women's T20 World Cup in Sharjah on Monday. England's four-pronged spin attack led by Sophie Ecclestone (2/15) strangulated South Africa in the death overs to restrict them to 124/6 after they opted to bat on a tricky wicket. In reply, England lost two wickets inside nine overs, but thereafter opener Danni Wyatt-Hodge (43 off 43) and Nat Sciver-Brunt (48 not out from 36b; 6x4) took complete control of the chase, romping home with four balls to spare.
England exacted sweet revenge on the Proteas with a seven-wicket victory in Monday's Women's T20 World Cup Group B encounter in Sharjah.
