Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya each scored 29 off 44 balls, but both perished to England's spinners. While Pandya holed out to deep mid-wicket off Moeen Ali, Jadeja played all over a simple delivery from Liam Livingstone.

The second ODI between India and England at Lord's on Thursday will be a great opportunity for the Rohit Sharma-led visitors to seal the series. India had won the first ODI of the three-match contest by 10 wickets. Former Indian cricket captain and current BCCI chief Sourav Ganguly turns 50 on July 8th. But the celebrations it seems have started already. Former IPL chairman and veteran cricket administrator Rajeev Shukla on Thursday shared a photo of him alongside Ganguly, BCCI secretary Jay Shah and Indian cricket legend Sachin Tendulkar on Twitter. In its caption Shukla wrote, "Celebrated the 50th birthday of Sourav Ganguli (sic). Wishing him happy & healthy life ahead."

Ask him how much freedom Ganguly gave his players during his near five-year tenure as skipper, Tendulkar was effusive in his praise. "Sourav was a great captain. He knew how to maintain a balance - between giving freedom to the players and giving them certain responsibilities," Tendulkar told PTI in an interview. "When he took over, Indian cricket was in a transition phase. We needed the next bunch of players who could set a platform for propelling India forward." Tendulkar feels that Ganguly gave a lot of world class players wings to fly and carve their own niche.
