2nd ODI: Reece Topley's career-best 6/24 sends India hurtling to 100-run defeat

England's superb comeback, after being hammered in the opener, has helped them tie the score 1-1 and set up an exciting finale, with the ODI series decider to be played on July 17 at Old Trafford. AS IT HAPPENEDLike England saw their batting implode in the first ODI, India too suffered a horrible top-order collapse which saw them crash to 31 for four in the 12th over. Chasing 247, the visitors folded for 146 in 38. 5 overs. Making things difficult for India with his high point of release due to his tall frame, Topley sent back both India's openers, skipper Rohit Sharma (0 off 10 balls) and Shikhar Dhawan (9 off 26 balls), before getting the in-form Suryakumar (27 off 29 balls), Shami (23), Chahal (3) and Krishna (0). Brydon Carse dismissed Rishabh Pant (0, 5b) and David Willey took out an out-of-form former captain Virat Kohli (16, 25b, 3x4) as England's pacers breathed fire on a pitch which had a bit of extra bounce. Ravindra Jadeja and Hardik Pandya each scored 29 off 44 balls, but both perished to England's spinners. While Pandya holed out to deep mid-wicket off Moeen Ali, Jadeja played all over a simple delivery from Liam Livingstone.

For three and a half decades, Sachin Tendulkar has seen Sourav Ganguly in various avatars -- a precocious teenager, a talented India contender, a stylish batter, a leader and a busy administrator. "He Can Do It If...": Wasim Jaffer On Joe Root's Chances Of Breaking Massive Sachin Tendulkar Record

Trailing the five-match series 1-2, England defeated India in the rescheduled fifth Test at Edgbaston in Birmingham. Joe Root and Jonny Bairstow hit centuries as England chased a down a record total of 378 to level the series 2-2. While Bairstow has been in top form of late, hitting tons in both innings, Root continued from where he left last year before the final Test was postponed. With four centuries and one fifty to his name, the former England skipper ended the series as the top-scorer with 737 runs. From flooding Sourav Ganguly's room to recommending him for vice captaincy, Sachin Tendulkar recollects old memories with BCCI President

Sachin Tendulkar has seen Sourav Ganguly in various avatars -- a precocious teenager, a talented India contender, a stylish batter, a leader and a busy administrator. But for India's greatest ever batter, what has stood the test of time is their friendship which is still intact and solid, long after they have both stopped playing international cricket. As the BCCI president turns 50 on Friday, his "opening partner" opened up with PTI, sharing many insights into their friendship and how he looked at Ganguly as a future captain when he himself was leading India. Ask him how much freedom Ganguly gave his players during his near five-year tenure as skipper, Tendulkar was effusive in his praise. "Sourav was a great captain. He knew how to maintain a balance - between giving freedom to the players and giving them certain responsibilities," Tendulkar told PTI in an interview. "When he took over, Indian cricket was in a transition phase. We needed the next bunch of players who could set a platform for propelling India forward." Tendulkar feels that Ganguly gave a lot of world class players wings to fly and carve their own niche.
