India vs West Indies: "Privilege To Lead India In 1000th ODI," Says Rohit Sharma

India skipper Rohit Sharma has said that it will be a privilege for him to lead the Men in Blue as they take the field to play their 1000th ODI. The side will achieve the feat in the first ODI against West Indies here at the Narendra Modi Stadium. In the 999 ODIs played earlier, India accounts for 518 wins and 431 losses. The Men in Blue had played their 500th match in 2002 and two decades later, the side has now reached the milestone of playing 1000 ODIs.

India vs West Indies: New India captain Rohit Sharma wants clarity on roles, more adaptability

Rohit Sharma on Saturday stressed on the need to be adaptable over the next 20 months leading up to the 2023 World Cup. “There is not a lot that we need to change. We just need to adapt to different situations of the game that is being presented in front of us,” said Sharma in his maiden interaction as the full-time ODI skipper. “We have played good ODI cricket over the course of the last few years. Suddenly the loss of a series (in South Africa) doesn’t mean that there is a panic that we need to create. (There are) certain understandings and learnings that we need to take into our game... the South Africa series was a great learning for us as to what we didn’t do collectively as a team,” he added at a virtual press conference ahead of the first of the three ODIs against West Indies.

"Just Have To Take It From Where He Left": Rohit Sharma On Captaincy Challenge After Virat Kohli Era

India captain Rohit Sharma on Saturday admitted that some individuals in the team needed "role clarity" but he would prefer carrying on from where his predecessor Virat Kohli had left rather than trying to reinvent the wheel. In his first interaction with media as full-time ODI skipper, Rohit refrained from entertaining any questions on his likely elevation as Test captain, Kuldeep Yadav's gradual integration into system post surgery and need to manage the workload properly. "It is always important that everyone comes together and plays that role that has been given to them. What is important for us, moving forward is the role clarity of certain individuals in the squad," Rohit said at a virtual press conference ahead of the first ODI against West Indies.
