India's superstar spinner, Ravichandran Ashwin, added another feather to his cap as he claimed his 37th 5-wicket haul in Tests. Ashwin achieved the feat as he bagged 6 wickets against Bangladesh in the second innings of the first Test at Chepauk, his home ground. The first innings wasn't the most fruitful for Ashwin from a bowling perspective, as he failed to bag a single wicket. But, he scored a century with the bat, playing a pivotal role in taking the team's total to 376 runs.
The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) Men's Selection Committee announced India's squad for the second Test against Bangladesh. In a release issued by the BCCI, the selection committee retained the same squad for the second Test. The second Test will be played in Kanpur from 27th September. There were talks around KL Rahul's position in the team, especially after the way he performed in the series opener at Chepauk. But, the selection committee decided to give him another chance. However, it would be interesting to see if Sarfaraz Khan is preferred over him in the playing XI.

Ashwin reached this feat during the first Test against Bangladesh at Chennai. After going wicketless in the first innings, Ashwin made it count during the final innings while defending a big total of 515 runs. At the end of day three's play, Ashwin took three wickets for 63 runs in 15 overs, with an economy rate of 4.20. Now, in 35 innings, Ashwin has taken 96 wickets in the fourth innings of a Test at an average of 19.4 and a strike rate of over 45, with the best bowling figures of 7/59. He has taken six five-wicket hauls in fourth innings of a Test match. He has overtaken Kumble, who had 94 fourth innings wickets in total.
Legendary cricketer Sachin Tendulkar on Saturday heaped praise on Rishabh Pant and Shubman Gill's performance against Bangladesh in the first Test match in Chennai. On Saturday, Gill scored 119 runs from 176 balls at a strike rate of 67.61 at the MA Chidambaram Stadium. He smashed 10 fours and 4 sixes during his time on the crease. Meanwhile, Pant played a 109-run knock from 128 balls at a strike rate of 85.16. His knock came to an end after Mehidy Hasan Miraz dismissed him in the 56th over of India's second inning.
Indian cricket team star batter Virat Kohli was in a jovial mood during Day 2 of the first Test match against Bangladesh in Chennai on Friday. Kohli failed to score big in the first innings after he was dismissed for 6 but that did not impact his spirits as he was his usual self on the field. In a video going viral on social media, Kohli was seen waving at the Chennai crowd and it led to a massive response from the spectators. The sound was deafening as the crowd applauded the star cricketer and later in the day, Kohli even put on a little dance show following the fall of a wicket.
