The Indian cricketing spectrum rejoiced as the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) announced that Rishabh Pant has resumed batting practice, for the first time since his near-fatal car accident in December last year. However, veteran Delhi Capitals pacer Ishant Sharma isn't too optimistic about Pant's return. In fact, the lanky pacer isn't expected Pant to be fully fit and available for the IPL next year too. But, Ishant is relieved of Pant making a quicker comeback as he didn't undergo a second surgery.

The Test series against West Indies has seen the Indian team management give chances to new faces. Yashasvi Jaiswal, Mukesh Kumar, and Ishan Kishan made their Test debuts. Kishan has played in limited overs format before for India. In the absence of Rishabh Pant, who is recuperating after suffering a car crash last year, Kishan has got several chances and is clearly being looked as an option in the attacking batter-wicketkeeper role. However, batting-wise he has not been able to impress so far. In the first Test, he took quite a long time to open his innings. In the first inning of the second Test, he started well but fell on 25 after playing 37 deliveries.

The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) on Friday shared important medical and fitness updates on five top players, who are currently undergoing rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy in Bengaluru. The players include, fast bowlers Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna, batters KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer, along with wicketkeeper Rishabh Pant. All five players are key elements in Indian cricket's scheme of things, especially with the World Cup being hosted by India later this year. "Mr Jasprit Bumrah and Mr Prasidh Krishna: The two fast bowlers are in the final stages of their rehab and are bowling with full intensity in the nets. The duo will now play some practice games, which the NCA will organise. The BCCI Medical Team is pleased with their progress and will make a final decision after assessing them following the practice games," the BCCI said in a release.

Rishabh Pant is steadily recovering from last year's horrific car crash. The wicketkeeper-batter has been out of action since December 2022, after he met with a horrific car accident while travelling from Delhi to Roorkee. He keeps on updating his fans regarding his health through his posts on social media. On Thursday, Pant shared his exercise video where he can be seen lifting weights with ease. Along with the video, he wrote a caption: "You get what you work for, not what you wish for".

Ahead of the second Test against West Indies in Trinidad, the Indian players caught up with some local fans. The Rohit Sharma-led side, which leads the two-match series 1-0 after decimating the hosts in Dominica last week, interacted with the fans. In a video shared by BCCI, captain Rohit, Virat Kohli, Ravindra Jadeja, head coach Rahul Dravid, among others were seen clicking pictures and signing autographs for some local fans. In the video, a girl approached Rohit to sign an old photograph of him, alongside her.
