Post Birmingham, India are ranked second overall behind Canada in the history of CWG wrestling competitions, winning a total of 114 medals, including 49 gold. Canada lead the chart with 69 gold, 48 silver and 30 bronze.

Day 9 of the ongoing Commonwealth Games proved to be a fruitful one for the Indian contingent as they added 14 more medals, including four gold, taking the total medal tally to 40. India are now placed at the fifth spot in the medal tally. Stars like Vinesh Phogat, Ravi Dahiya, Naveen and Bhavina Patel won the yellow metal on Saturday. The contingent would now hope for the good show to continue on the final two days of the games.

Sakshi Malik had bagged a gold medal at the ongoing Commonwealth Games on Friday in the women's freestyle 62kg category after defeating Canada's Ana Gonzalez in the summit clash. It is important to note that Sakshi had become the first Indian woman wrestler to clinch a gold at the Olympics in 2016 Rio Olympics. Sakshi was at her best in the ongoing Commonwealth Games, and she staged a stunning comeback in the summit clash, being on the backfoot for most of the match.

So far the Indian athletes have won 40 medals-- 13 gold, 11 silver and 16 bronze -- in this edition of the Games, with two more days of competition left. Saturday was full of medal news for India, headlined by historic feats in athletics and a windfall in wrestling.
