Virat Kohli Praises Rajat Patidar's "Very, Very Special" Innings In IPL 2022 Eliminator

Virat Kohli praised the "very, very special" performance of unlikely hero Rajat Patidar after his match-winning ton put Royal Challengers Bangalore two victories away from their first IPL title. Patidar hit an unbeaten 112 to become the first uncapped player in the Twenty20 tournament's history to score a century in the play-offs as Bangalore surged past Lucknow Super Giants on Wednesday. The Faf du Plessis-led side will take on Rajasthan Royals in Friday's second qualifier in Ahmedabad, with the winners to take on Gujarat Titans in the final two days later at the same venue.

IPL 2022: Dinesh Karthik is 'that rock' of the side, says RCB's Mike Hesson

Indian Premier League (IPL) side Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) has revealed that when South African stalwart AB de Villiers decided to quit the team and announced his retirement at the end of the 2021 season, the team was taken aback. But the way wicketkeeper-batter Dinesh Karthik has shaped up this season, he has become "that rock" of the side. "DK (Dinesh Karthik) has probably been that rock. When you miss a guy like AB (de Villiers), we talked about how you are going to replace AB and now we are not doing that, but he (Karthik) has been exceptional in terms of finishing," said Mike Hesson, RCB's director of cricket operations, on RCB Bold diaries before the Eliminator against Lucknow Super Giants at the Eden Gardens here later on Wednesday. The last few games played by RCB witnessed their batters putting up a fine show while their much-talked about top order sprang back to life in the last league game against Gujarat Titans. With the team keeping its hopes alive of making it to the final, Hesson felt that a collaborative effort from Virat Kohli, skipper Faf du Plessis and Glenn Maxwell helped the side tame the Titans.

Watch: Elderly Fan Left In Pain After Being Hit By RCB Star's Massive Six

During Royal Challengers Bangalore's defeat to Punjab Kings on Friday, Rajat Patidar hit a massive six that ended up injuring one unfortunate fan. During the ninth over of RCB's chase of 210, Patidar smashed Harpreet Brar over cow corner. The ball travelled a huge distance and hit a part of the stands under the railing and ended up hitting the fan. The camera panned to show a lady in the stands attending to the elderly fan, who looked to be in discomfort.

"Wicket Didn't Suit Pace": Josh Hazlewood After RCB's Win vs SRH

Royal Challengers Bangalore pacer Josh Hazlewood said that the wicket during the clash against Sunrisers Hyderabad, was not suitable for pace bowlers. Faf du Plessis' unbeaten knock of 73 and Wanindu Hasaranga's five-wicket haul helped Royal Challengers Bangalore beat SunRisers Hyderabad by 67 runs at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday. "Sweaty again, nice and hot. The wicket probably got drier as the match went on. Being a day game, it deteriorated and we took the pace off. Our spinners bowled really well, we worked to a plan and achieved it. It (knuckle ball) is tough in these conditions with how sweaty everything is and when the dew comes in at night. It's a tough skill but seems to be coming out okay. Tonight's wicket didn't suit pace on," said Hazlewood in a post-match presentation.

It was a much needed confidence-booster fifty for Kohli, says Gavaskar

Sunil Gavaskar said on Saturday that Virat Kohli's half-century against Gujarat Titans in the IPL game on Saturday will work as a much-needed confidence booster for the batter as well as his team Royal Challengers Bangalore. Several former cricketers, including ex-India coach Ravi Shastri, have suggested Kohli should take a break from the game, but in the match against Gujarat Titans, the former RCB captain showed signs of returning to form. Kohli, after enduring a series of failures (0, 0, 9 in his previous three innings), finally scored a half-century and Gavaskar said the fifty came at the right time for him and it will work as a confidence booster for the beleaguered batter.

IPL 2022, GT vs RCB: David Miller, Rahul Tewatia guide Gujarat Titans home against Royal Challengers Bangalore

Rahul Tewatia (43*) and David Miller (39*) are consistently making their mark as two of the most reliable finishers in this edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Against Chennai Super Kings, it was Miller’s unbeaten 94 along with Rashid Khan’s innings that took the Gujarat Titans to victory in the last over. On Saturday, against the Royal Challengers Bangalore at Mumbai’s Brabourne Stadium, the duo’s 79-run partnership in 40 balls again bailed out the Titans from a mid-match collapse to register a six-wicket triumph. Their finishing overshadowed former Indian captain Virat Kohli’s return to form with a half-century.
