India vs Leicestershire, Tour Match, Day 4 Live Score Updates: After setting a target of 367 runs for Leicestershire, India have done a decent job with the ball so far on the final day of the ongoing warm-up game. The guests declared at their overnight score of 364/9. Virat Kohli and Ravindra Jadeja had hit fifties in the second innings as India managed to take a 366-run lead over Leicestershire by Stumps on Day 3. Kohli was dismissed on 67 by Jasprit Bumrah while Jadeja remained unbeaten on 56 as India managed to reach a total of 364 for nine at stumps on Saturday. Earlier, India had declared their first innings on 246/8 before bundling out Leicestershire for 244.
After a below-par T20I series against South Africa with the bat, Rishabh Pant, playing for Leicestershire finally had a ball as he scored 76 runs off 87 balls in the ongoing four-day practice match between India and Leicestershire at Grace Road. It is interesting to note that Pant was playing the match against India, the team that had Mohammed Shami, Umesh Yadav, Shardul Thakur, Mohammed Siraj and Ravindra Jadeja in the bowling unit. The southpaw was eventually outfoxed by Jadeja after handing a catch to Shreyas Iyer.
Pacer Mohammed Siraj feels that he needs to work on his consistency before featuring in India's fifth Test against England. India will be squaring off against England for the fifth and final Test of the five-match series on July 1, which earlier got postponed in September 2021 due to COVID-19.
Mohammed Siraj had a nightmare of an Indian Premier League (IPL) 2022 for Royal Challengers Bangalore but one of India's rising fast bowling stars is hopeful of making amends with the red Dukes during the series-deciding fifth Test against England. In the recently concluded IPL, Siraj had an economy rate of 10.07 with only nine wickets from 15 games but even bigger ignominy was being hit for a whopping 31 sixes, highest by any bowler in history of the tournament.
India's 2-1 Test series win in Australia in 2020-21 remains one of the major milestones in the country's cricket history. It was not just about the victory but also the way the Ajinkya Rahane-led Team India made a glorious comeback in that series. After the Virat Kohli-led India lost the first Test, the then India captain returned home for the birth of his child. Rahane took over as the stand-in captain and led the team to a brilliant win. India won the second Test in Melbourne and then drew the third Test in Sydney. Despite the absence of several senior players, India won the series decider in Brisbane.
Mohammed Siraj was retained by Royal Challengers Bangalore for a whopping Rs 7 crore ahead of the mega IPL auction. The team would have expected a lot from the Indian pacer in IPL 2022, but instead Siraj's performances this season proved to be a damp squib. So much so that he was even dropped for a match. He, however, returned to the playing XI for RCB's playoffs matches but yet again failed to rise to the occasion. On Friday night, when the team needed him to put in a good performance, Siraj once again had a nightmare outing. He bowled just two overs where he was plundered for 31 runs. Siraj was smashed for three sixes in the two overs he bowled against Rajasthan Royals in Qualifier 2 and in the process, registered a record he would quickly want to forget.
Royal Challengers Bangalore's hopes of making the playoffs received a big setback after their 54-run loss to Punjab Kings meant that they remain on 14 points with just one match remaining for them. RCB's net run-rate also suffered and this could be a big problem with quite a few teams breathing down their necks in the race for the playoffs. On Friday, two RCB bowlers had a nightmare -- Mohammed Siraj and Josh Hazlewood. While the Australian has been impressive all season, and the performance against PBKS was probably just a blip, Siraj has been poor throughout IPL 2022.
