The first day of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction has ended. A total of 84 players (72 sold and 12 unsold) went under the hammer.
England batter Harry Brook has pulled out of the 18th season of the Indian Premier League (IPL) this year, for the second successive season and stands at risk of facing a two-year ban from future editions of the cash-rich league. As per ESPNCricinfo, Brook's move to pull out from the league was conveyed by the officials of England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) to the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) last week and then revealed to his franchise Delhi Capitals (DC), who got him in the last year's auction for Rs 6.25 crores.
Former Australia captain Ricky Ponting has opened up on the challenges of distributing the products of his signature wine brand in India. In 2020, Ponting and his wife Rianna collaborated with Ben Riggs, an award-winning Australian winemaker, to launch the cricketer's "Ponting Wines" label. The label was launched with four wines, each reflecting Ponting's life and cricketing career. In 2023, "Ponting Wines" entered the Indian market through Delhi Duty Free, thanks to his association with Delhi Capitals (DC)'s co-owners, the GMR Group. However, Ponting has revealed that he is finding it hard to enter the Indian market, other than Delhi Duty Free, due to tax complications.
The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) and the franchise owners in the Pakistan Super League are facing a catch-22 situation over signing on some of the high profile overseas players who went unsold in the Indian Premier League auction recently. PSL 10, to be held between April 8 to May 19, is clashing with the IPL this time and teams are keen to sign players such as David Warner and Steve Smith, who did not find takers in IPL auction.
India's stunning victory over Australia upset the predictions of quite a few cricket experts and former cricketers, who had given Australia the edge looking at India's form in the home series against New Zealand. One of them, former England cricketer Michael Vaughan, had predicted that Australia would win the five-match Test series 3-1. However, just after Australia were bundled out for 104 in response to India's first innings total of 150, legendary former India captain Sourav Ganguly did not miss a chance to tease Vaughan and remind him about his prediction.
Once touted as the player who possess the same talent as the greats Sachin Tendulkar, Brian Lara and Virender Sehwag, Prithvi Shaw saw his career hit an all-new low in the Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction. The opening batter didn't receive a single bid in the auction on Monday despite keeping his base price at a meagre INR 75 lakh. Shaw remains a player of high potential but disciplinary issues seem to have taken a massive toll on him, sending his cricketing career on a downward spiral. As Shaw went unsold in the auction, former India cricketer Mohammad Kaif showed him the cruel reality of his current status.
Captain Ben Stokes has revealed that he chose not to participate in the recent Indian Premier League (IPL) mega auction in Jeddah to extend his England career. Stokes had previously played for Rising Pune Supergiant (RPS), Rajasthan Royals (RR) and Chennai Super Kings (CSK) in the IPL, and was named the most valuable player of the tournament in 2017. Stokes was a notable omission from the list of England players in the auction, and under new rules, if he had pulled out after being acquired by a team in the mega auction, provided it was for legitimate reasons, he would not have been eligible to participate in the next two seasons of the competition.
Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) broke the bank for India wicketkeeper-batter Rishabh Pant at the Indian Premier League (IPL) Mega Auction on Sunday. LSG splashed Rs 27 crore on Pant, making him the most-expensive ever buy at an IPL, surpassing PBKS' bid of Rs 26.75 crore earlier in the day. Pant is likely to replace India teammate KL Rahul at LSG's helm, with the latter parting company with the franchise after a three-year association. LSG did not retain Rahul as the franchise to fail to qualify for the playoffs last season.
The Indian Premier League (IPL) 2025 auction came to a conclusion on Monday after 577 players were shortlisted for the 2-day event in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. While Rishabh Pant became the most expensive buy in the history of the T20 league, going to Lucknow Super Giants for a fee of INR 27 crore, 13-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi became the youngest player to be bought in the auction, roped in by Rajasthan Royals. However, the 2-day auction didn't just make some cricketers crorepatis but also saw some of the top names failing to draw any bid from a franchise.
