PARIS :Another obstacle in top seed Iga Swiatek's path to a second French Open title was removed on Wednesday as fourth seed Maria Sakkari was knocked out 7-6(5) 7-6(4) by Czech Karolina Muchova in the second round at Roland Garros.
Maria Sakkari crashed out in the French Open second round Wednesday, going down 7-6 (7/5), 7-6 (7/4) to Czech world number 81 Karolina Muchova. Sakkari, a 2021 Roland Garros semi-finalist, is the fifth women's top-10 seed to lose in the first four days at Roland Garros.
Karolina Muchova returned to the form she showed in the first half of last year by knocking fourth seed Maria Sakkari out in the second round of the French Open. A tight match was settled by two tie-breaks, with the Czech coming through 7-6 7-6 in 2 hours and 27 minutes.
