It was nearly a perfect day for Kawasaki’s Jonathan Rea at Donington on Saturday as he secured a remarkable new Superpole best of 1’26.080 and then was only second in the opening WorldSBK race to the remarkable and unexpected pace of race winner Toprak Razgatlioglu.
After some tricky points in the early season, Pata Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu won the Superpole Race at Misano, and then followed that up with an unexpectedly clear WorldSBK race one win in the sunshine of an English summer’s day at Donington Park.
Razgatlioglu, who qualified third quickest behind Rea and Alex Lowes, hit the front off the line and led all the way, clinching victory by 6.3s from Rea after 24 laps, with Lowes passing fellow Briton Scott Redding in the closing stages to join his Kawasaki team-mate on the rostrum, over nine seconds behind the winner.
Pata Yamaha’s Toprak Razgatlioglu blitzed the opening race of the Prosecco DOC UK Round taking his second victory of the season with a six-second lead.
