JEREZ, Spain : Ducati's Francesco Bagnaia denied world champion Fabio Quartararo of Yamaha a fifth straight pole position at the Spanish Grand Prix as the Italian clinched top spot in qualifying in Jerez on Saturday.
JEREZ DE LA FRONTERA (SPAIN): Ducati rider Francesco Bagnaia signalled a return to form by scorching his way to pole position for the Spanish MotoGP as fastest qualifier at the Jerez track Saturday. The Italian was a massive 0.453sec faster than reigning world champion and current championship leader Fabio Quartararo with a sizzling 1min 36.17sec fastest lap.
It was Ecstar Suzuki’s Joan Mir, the 2021 champion, who hit the front on lap one, opening a 0.7s gap over the chasing pack, headed by Quartararo.
Having traded top spot in FP3 this morning and running 1-2 in FP4, the expected pole battle between Bagnaia and reigning world champion Quartararo raged early on in qualifying.
