Uncapped English fast bowler Josh Hull will replace Mark Wood in the remaining two Test matches of the series against Sri Lanka after the 34-year-old suffered a right thigh muscle strain while bowling in the second innings of the Manchester Test, according to the ICC. Hull is a left-arm seamer, who recently featured in the England Lions fixture against Sri Lanka, and picked up five wickets at an average of 14.8. Wood had an exceptional start to his spell in the second inning, getting the wicket of Dimuth Karunaratne off his first ball, but pulled out of his run-up in the 56th over, and left the field.
Fast bowler Olly Stone will replace the injured Mark Wood in the England team to play Sri Lanka in the second test at Lord's, the England and Wales Cricket Board (ECB) said on Tuesday.

England wicketkeeper Jamie Smith scored a sensational century during the side's ongoing first Test against Sri Lanka at Emirates Old Trafford, Manchester. The ton that came on the third day of the game also saw Smith scripting history as he became the youngest wicketkeeper from England to score a Test century. Smith, at 24 years and 42 days, broke a record that had stood since 1930. England's Les Ames held the previous record by scoring a Test century at the age of 24 years and 63 days, against the West Indies in Port of Spain.
Joe Root's gritty unbeaten 62 guided England to a five-wicket win in the first Test against Sri Lanka at Old Trafford on Saturday. Set 205 to win, England were faltering at 56-2 when star batsman Root came in shortly before tea on the fourth day. But together with Yorkshire team-mate Harry Brook (32) he shared a grinding partnership of 49 in 20 overs -- a far cry from England's 'Bazball' approach of recent years -- although a still slow outfield made boundaries hard to come by.
England vs Sri Lanka, 1st Test Day 3 Highlights: Sri Lanka were 204-6 in their second innings at stumps on the third day of the first Test against England in Manchester. However, the visitors held a lead of 82 runs with just four wickets standing and two days left to play. Sri Lanka were in dire trouble at 1-2 before lunch on Friday after conceding a first-innings deficit of over a hundred runs as Jamie Smith broke a 94-year-old record by becoming the youngest England wicketkeeper to score a Test century. However, Kamindu Mendis (56*) and Angelo Mathews (65) made damage limitation for the visitors. (Scorecard)
England finally saw off Angelo Mathews as they pressed for victory over Sri Lanka in the first Test at Old Trafford on Friday. Sri Lanka were 204-6 in their second innings at stumps on the third day of this three-match series, a lead of 82 runs with just four wickets standing and two days left to play. But there was a worrying sign for England shortly before the close when express fast bowler Mark Wood, whose career has been blighted by injuries, went off two balls into his 11th over.
