Highlights of the fourth day at the French Open on Wednesday (times GMT):
PARIS : Jakub Mensik said he tried to compose himself like his mentor Novak Djokovic would to handle the partisan French Open crowd after the talented Czech teenager downed local hope Alexandre Muller in a tense clash on Tuesday.
GENEVA, Switzerland :Novak Djokovic moved to the brink of his 100th tour-level title after recovering from a second-set blip to beat British qualifier Cameron Norrie 6-4 6-7(6) 6-1 in the Geneva Open semi-finals on Friday.
PARIS :For the first time since Rafael Nadal called time on his extraordinary career, the French Open begins without the looming prospect of its most dominant champion, and while Roland-Garros turns the page on a golden era, the 14-time winner says he is content to leave the stage behind.
Novak Djokovic launches his latest bid for a record-setting 25th Grand Slam title at the French Open, hoping to fight off his advancing years and potentially end a 10-month wait for his 100th ATP tournament victory. The 38-year-old has struggled for his best since defeating Carlos Alcaraz to win Olympic gold in Paris last year and returns to Roland Garros shortly after splitting from coach and former rival Andy Murray. "I know what it takes to be a Grand Slam champion," said Djokovic, speaking ahead of this week's warm-up event in Geneva.
Novak Djokovic announced on Tuesday that he will be parting ways with his former rival and current coach, Andy Murray, after a stint of six months. Djokovic, 37, had brought Murray to his coaching staff ahead of the Australian Open 2025. Taking to Instagram, Djokovic said, "Thank you, coach Andy, for all the hard work, fun and support over last six months on and off the court. I really enjoyed deepening our friendship together." The partnership started in a promising way, with the icon defeating Carlos Alcaraz to make it to the quarterfinals of the Australian Open, the first Slam of the year. However, an injury forced him to retire from the tournament during the semifinal against Alexander Zverev. Djokovic though, was full of praise he received from his long-time rival.
Coco Gauff overpowered defending champion Iga Swiatek 6-1, 6-1 to reach the Madrid Open singles final for the first time Thursday.
Unseeded Mariano Navone of Argentina pulled off the biggest upset of the day, taking down No. 3 seed Felix Felix Auger-Aliassime of Canada 2-6, 6-4, 7-6 (3) in the first round of the BMW Open on Tuesday in Munich, Germany.
