Manchester City made it six wins on the bounce in all competitions on Saturday with a 4-0 victory against Southampton, with you-know-who of course getting himself on the scoresheet.
Manchester City aren't going to win the Premier League playing perfectly in every game, and they were slow and under-par for large portions against Southampton. Yet just as fans were beginning to get restless at the Etihad, and Pep Guardiola was showing plenty of frustration on the sidelines, Joao Cancelo twisted and turned and fired them ahead, before another fine goal from Phil Foden calmed nerves further after the game had slowed again.
There was a moment in the first half against Southampton where nobody in the ground could believe what had happened.
Manchester City will take on Southampton at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday, but they will have to do so without three England stars.
The strong word is that Ralph Hassenhuttl’s number is almost up at Southampton. Safe to say the Austrian, the fourth longest-serving manager in the Premier League, would prefer a different fixture to act as the make-or-break game to decide his future than Saturday’s trip to Manchester City.
